Kate Moreland is the President and CEO of the Iowa City Area Development Group (ICAD) and is inspired by the opportunities to drive innovation in all areas of economic and community development. Kate and her team work on issues such as workforce development, talent and business attraction, supporting existing industry and entrepreneurial development.
Kate graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1997 and worked as an attorney until 2005. Kate has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa College of Law and worked as Director of Community Relations for the Iowa City Community School District. Kate has been with ICAD for 8 years. Kate was instrumental in leading the efforts around International Welcoming and ICR Future, a regional collaboration designed to increase K12 career connected learning. Kate and her team recently secured an EDA Federal grant to grow the Ed Tech Industry in Iowa.
Kate is a certified coach and serves on a number of community boards including Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, the SE Iowa STEM Region board, the Iowa City Area Business Partnership and the Iowa City Downtown District Board. She was awarded the Corridor Business Journal Forty Under 40 in 2011, received recognition as an Immigrant Champion statewide in 2016, and received an Ovation Award from the Iowa Women’s Foundation in 2020. Kate and her husband Joe have three children, Meg, 21, Charlie 19, and Jack, 15.
